This U.S. Marine that was stationed over in Afghanistan the day Osama Bin Laden was killed. He took this flag down in the town of Kandahar to symbolize mission completed. After bringing it back to the U.S. he decided to get it framed here at The Frame Studio in Fort Lauderdale. This is such an emotionally charged piece, that this framing will surely be passed down for generations to come, always remembering the sacrifices that were made. (It doesn’t show it very well in the picture but the flag has a 3D effect to it, giving the feel that it is still blowing in the wind)

When I first began at The Frame Studio my initial thoughts of designing a frame layout could have been described as straightforward. Since then I have learned quite a bit about quality frame design. For instance this framing project below is stunning yet simple. The quality of materials used is obvious. The white matte provides a key function giving space between the frame and the picture letting the layout breath and draw the focus to the babies. But, what sets this framing apart is the matching fillet and frame with their natural wood tones which compliment the grass and the woven baskets organic shape.

Guy Harvey has been a favorite artist of mine since my dad bought me a t-shirt when I was a kid. Since then, I have always taken a liking to all of his paintings and this one was no exception. Not only is the painting beautiful but the frame compliments it so nicely it really takes it to that next level. The wooden frame provides a nice neutral color which is easy on the eyes. The insert is what sets this piece apart from other framings though, it has a copper color that looks like its beginning to oxidize. This color combination is the perfect segue between the frame and the painting. The metallic copper color compliments the frame while the greenish oxidized color reflects the light blues in the ocean and the green in the Mahi Mahi which really brings the whole piece together.

A lot of the more elaborate frame designs done here at The Frame Studio tend to be rather large pieces. I think this has to do with the clients expectations not being very high of small pieces. But every now and then a client comes in with a small piece they have a vision for and the end result looks so great. This is one of those scenarios. These two paintings (about 5×5) we’re acquired while on a clients vacation. With the paintings being so colorful and the frame with a bold design, the white inlaid liner lets the painting breathe while adding to the overall size of the finished piece. This frame not only compliments the bright colors but also the texture of the paintings and adds a cohesiveness to the whole design. So if you think a piece is too small for framing bring it in and let us help you with a unique design that will compliment your piece.

One of the most interesting aspects of framing are all the different types of art that are brought in to be framed here in Fort Lauderdale. This is one of my new favorite artist that I have discovered from working at The Frame Studio. This particular artists name is Alex Gupton, and his artwork is very detail oriented. In fact there is so much detail, I was informed by the client that brought in these two pieces, that each piece Gupton does he hides a three eyed fish somewhere in the artwork. I did spend the time to find the three eyed fish, it reminded me of a mutant fish from The Simpsons. The framing of these two ink drawings are nicely complimented by the graceful slope of the frame as well as the black and silver colors. Can you find the three eyed fish?

Big bowl games and the end of a season games usually hold a lot of sentimental value to die hard fans, and this framing was no exception for this client. This example really exemplifies how holding onto little things from events like these can make for a great piece that brings back all the emotion you experienced while you were at the event. This client has been a fan of the Miami Hurricanes his whole life even when he went away to the University of Florida he still remained a fan. So, framing these tickets and programs was an easy decision for him. In my opinion the best design is a simple design and these two frames are great examples of this principle. These are simple black frames with a black under matte, and the top matte is white with an orange core raised up so it is flush with the top of the magazine. I also raised the tickets to make it the same height as the magazine and matte. This design is clean and will look great for years and years where ever they are hung.

While working here in Ft. Lauderdale I see a lot of interesting things get framed that catch my attention. Sometimes its full magazines or golf balls, other times its very beautiful artwork and awards. In this case its an 18th century map of Indonesia and surrounding regions. I think my appreciation for this map comes from all the surf videos I’ve seen that take place in Indonesia. Not only that but with this frames rough look makes the map show its age like its a treasure map and it has secrets that haven’t been discovered yet. This was a simple framing but this piece still draws me in making me want to study the map like I will learn something just by looking at it. If you have an interesting map or an old piece or memorabilia let us help you add a sense of history to it with our custom framing options.

Here at The Frame Studio, I have seen some large pieces come through our doors to be framed. This one definitely lands in the top 10 biggest framings. This painting was done by the client who brought it in. The artist decided to finish the piece with a Larson Juhl frame that is black with a silver outside. This type of style where the piece does not actually touch the edge of the frame is called a floater. So if you think you have a cool piece to frame but its too big or complicated bring it in, or we can deliver also, and you will be happily surprised with the finished product. (Béla is 6’4″ for reference).

Many of our clients take some amazing vacations and bring back some really cool pictures. This client takes the cake with this picture they took while in Tunisia. This tribe has different stages of manhood and it is determined by the height at which they jump from this tower they build. This tribe are the first bungee jumpers, using vines as the bungee. Not only does this picture blow me away but the framing for it also brings the picture to life. The frame mimics the tower built by the tribesmen with a white liner to give some separation between the frame and the picture so the picture doesn’t blend in with the frame. All in all this piece is one of my favorites to date.

Some of my favorite framing projects that The Frame Studio clients bring in are the pictures that they bring back from their world travels. This particular piece was a painting of Prague, and the painting even without the frame is beautiful. This piece was brought in with a thin matte around it containing the artist signature so that had to stay, this is why the brown matte has different dimensions from the top to bottom. The frame is a Larson Juhl frame with a faded brown outside and a silver bevel moving towards the cream matte. All in all this came out being one of my favorites so far in my framing career, because of the shape of the frame and the colors within the whole piece.
