How Much Should Framing Cost?

How Much Should Framing Cost?
We have been asked if there is a formula for how much you should spend on framing compared to how much you spent on the art.  There is no formula.  We have been told, "I only spent $3 on this art I bought on vacation, I don't want to spend a lot on the framing".  We get it, sometimes you have something you want to hang that didn't cost a lot - but guess what - frame pricing goes by the size of the art, not the value of the art. If you had a Picasso and a flea market painting that are the same size - pick any frame and it would cost the same on both.  Look at this cheap find.  The client only s...

Is There a Right Way to Frame Art?

Is There a Right Way to Frame Art?
We get the question all of the time "What is the right way to frame a piece of art? Are there rules about the size of matting or framing?"  There is no right way.  Look at these two custom framed pieces - what's the difference between these two?  They are the same piece of art, and they both work with a black and gold framing combination - but there is a difference.  The art is the same size in both pictures, but the finished size is very different.  One is framed simply with a double mat and a thin gold frame, and it looks great.  The other piece is framed with a black linen liner, a ...

The Mai-Kai Recreated

The Mai-Kai Recreated
A client brought in this amazing piece of artwork by Christina Lihan Studio, and we were just blown away.  THE FRAME STUDIO custom framed it simply with a black shadow box frame and added a rustic wood fillet to bring in the all wood feel of the Mai-Kai's beautiful decor, and used Museum Glass to help see this beauty without the glare of the Florida sun.  If you get to check out this artist on Facebook or Instagram, you will be stunned by the detail she creates with cut paper!

just . . . WOW!

just . . . WOW!
A client brought in this large Ashley Longshore silk scarf for custom framing - sometimes scarves cannot be fully admired when they are tied around your neck. Working with THE FRAME STUDIO, the client chose a really WOW framing combo stacking two mirrored frames together to get a very 1920's Gatsby feel. We had a hard time letting this beauty leave the shop!

They Never Forget

They Never Forget
A client brought this beautiful photograph of an elephant in to THE FRAME STUDIO as a memory of a wonderful trip and much time spent in an artist's market being enthralled with the art.  Once he and his wife saw this piece, they had to have it. Picking out custom framing for this art was easy - it needed to be simplistic but could be more bulky to balance out the size and darkness of the elephant.  When we found this framing combination, there was no question it was the right one. The detail in this elephant portrait is unbelievable, and the framing helps accentuate it. Plus - the size o...

Yes, we can do that!

Yes, we can do that!
Two of our clients are huge Dead Heads, and they brought in this signed double album "Reckoning" that they wanted THE FRAME STUDIO to custom frame. Yes, we can do that! We worked together to come up with a framing combination that accentuated the cover art, while also making sure to show the vinyl. It was all done in a shadow box frame to allow for the depth of the records. If you need a miracle . . . we've got one for you . . . every day!

Framing Redo

Framing Redo
A client brought in two very cool pieces to THE FRAME STUDIO that were framed back in the 80s - and boy did the framing show that! (SEE BELOW. When is the last time you saw malachite laminate?) These two pieces of art done on plexi are of her and her husbands astrological signs. (Isn't that sweet?) She wanted custom frame them to update these two pieces to fit her current décor.  Working with the colors in her home, she found a framing combination that now brings them back to life and ties them together better. So you need to redo the framing for something you love?  Call us to make an...

Beautiful Layers

Beautiful Layers
We recently had something really cool come across our table . . . look at this piece of art. This art is made of 5 layers of Mylar, with drawing on each layer. The art was shipped already framed to the client all the way from India. We reframed it making sure to keep the same spacing between the layers as it was in the original framing, creating a shadowbox. Custom framing sometimes needs to be simple to show off the fine details - like in the drawing of the goldfish in this image.
